Consistently Make Wise Food Choices

A key strategy people use to prevent pounds from reappearing is remaining vigilant about what and how much they eat. The NWCR participants reported consciously choosing foods that are low in calo- ries and low in fat. These folks reported getting an average of 25 per- cent or less of their daily calories from fat, a strategy that helps to reduce overall caloric intake.
Although this level of fat intake is within the recommended range of 20 to 35 percent, it is much lower than what the typical American consumes. However, its not only the food choices that the NWCR people made that helped them keep the weight off. Making those choices consistently seems to matter, too. These successful weight losers reported maintaining a consistent pat- tern of eating. In other words, they did not eat differently on weekdays as opposed to weekends, for example.
