Willpower: Weight-Loss Fact or Myth?

How many times have you ever heard this before: “If shed sim- ply stop herself from eating so much, she wouldnt have a weight problem”? Or how about this one: “If hed just make himself go to the gym every day, hed get rid of that belly”? Many people mistakenly believe that a lack of willpower is the sole reason everyone is overweight.
In fact, a Weight Watchers survey of its members found that 50 percent of women and
men believe that willpower is all you need to lose weight. The truth is that willpower is only part of what it takes. Losing weight and keeping it off require more than willpower; they require a comprehensive weight-loss plan that includes main- taining a positive mind-set, paying attention to food choices, getting regular physical activity, and creating a supportive atmosphere.
