Interesting Natural Weight Loss Foods - Variety for A Vegetarian Diet Plan

One of the big challenges with a vegetarian diet plan for weight loss is variety and availability. Sometimes you need to get creative and look for alternatives when your favorite vegetables aren't in season. With that in mind, I've come up with some tips to lose weight that include some interesting natural weight loss foods.

But you don't have to be a vegan or vegetarian to enjoy them. These are healthy foods to eat to lose weight for anyone looking for variety while they're shedding pounds.

Fiddlehead Ferns: These curlicued veggies have a slightly bitter, nutty flavor. Folks often replace asparagus with fiddlehead ferns. But their harvest time is a very limited window in May. And their flavor tends to diminish quickly after picking. So, you'll probably want to enjoy them the day you buy them for best taste! One other quick note: Buy these ferns only from a reputable grower or market. Some fiddleheads can actually be toxic. And, if you're looking to grown them yourself, do some research. They can be a bit tricky to grow.

New Zealand Spinach: Spinach is one of my first choices of healthy foods to lose weight fast. But it also has some other amazing health benefits:

Maintains the bone strength and density.

Promotes healthy skin.

Protects eyes from cataracts.

Lowers blood pressure.

But, unfortunately, spinach loves cold nights. So, by May normal spinach can be hard to find. And, that's when you should look for New Zealand Spinach! Also called "Maori" Spinach, it grows all summer long!
Garlic Scapes: Ever notice those long green branches that shoot out of garlic plants in June? Many folks use them as a milder alternative to the garlic itself. Cut them up and use them in your recipes for all of the health benefits of garlic. Some even eat them whole like green beans!

Sea Beans: These used to be called the poor man's asparagus. But their popularity has raised their value. They taste exactly like what their moniker suggest: a salty bean. Although some farmers are starting to cultivate sea beans, you can find them growing wild along marshes and shores.

Scorzonera:  As is common with natural weight loss foods, the ugly brown root of the scorzonera can turn people. But it tastes just like oysters! Boil the roots, cut them up and make a mock oyster stew. And they are a great source of iron and calcium too. But they go bad quickly. So, cook them the day you buy them for best taste.
